Introduction: Black Bellied Prince’s Stunning Abandoned Consort 《腹黑王爷的绝色弃妃》 – Little Fox Beauty《狐狸小姝》

Hello fellow readers! I’m not sure if any of my readers notice I’ve been reading this super long novel. The female lead Su Qi Qi is the eldest daughter of the Prime Ministers, she was chosen as the Empress, however because she’s not as beautiful and smart as her younger sister, Su Meng Ru so she’s been disgracefully replaced. Instead she’s becomes Er Wang Ye’s [1] (Mo Wen Chen) imperial consort.

[1] 王爺 Wáng Yé is an informal way of addressing a prince or a vassal king.

Upon their wedding night, instead of consummating their marriage Mo Wen Chen orders her to the laundry department saying she’s his disgrace/humiliation. She has been washing clothes for two month since marrying into the Wang residence. Mo Wen Chen’s female cousin, Hua Qian Zi bullies Su Qi Qi because Su Qi Qi has stolen the imperial consort position she’s been working so hard to obtain. Su Qi Qi’s mother is not favourable by her father so she takes in all the humiliation she suffers in the Wang residence as she doesn’t want to implicate her mother in any way.

Su Qi Qi appears ordinary and has no special talent at all. One day Mo Wen Chen is poison and all the doctor are hopeless without able to find a cure, Su Qi Qi knows medicine ends up saving him. Here we see one of her many hidden talents, she is well versed in medicine, in order to save him she uses her own body to treat various herbs and etc to find a cure for him, she even drinks his poisoned blood and tries the antidotes herself. In order to obtain one of the special medicine, she reveals another talent of hers. She’s well versed in the Gu Qin. [2]

[2] 古琴 Gǔ Qín is a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the zither family.

This novel reminds me of Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang, because Mo Wen Chen starts to fall in with her due to her talent not because her beauty. However I think that’s the only thing that have in common. I will definitely will not be picking up this novel as any future translation project as there are way too many chapters. But I might consider summarizing the chapters in group of 10 if anyone is interested in following the story development. eg Chapters 1 – 10, 11 – 20 and etc. As usual I’ll translate the first chapter just to give you a glimpse of the novel.

Disclaimer: Synopsis have been translated by me

Because her appearance is not breathtaking, the Emperor broke off the engagement and bestow her marriage to the bloodthirsty, ruthless, and cold-blooded Second Prince (Wang Ye). On her wedding night came endless humiliation, the genuine Princess Consort has become a deserted women. A foolish women rebirth, she no longer expect his love, in this world, she must be amazingly talented and have beautiful diction, override above the nine night.

Chapter 1 – Remarry

The clear winter night.

Su Qi Qi dressed in a red wedding dress, in the Ding Bei Hou[3] residence she sat waiting in the bridal chamber, her hands tightly twisted in one place, as her palm slightly sweated.

[3] 定北候 Ding Bei Hou should be the title Mo Wen Chen is bestowed by the Emperor

The xi pa[4] hid her tender face, no one can see her upset and helpless expression, this was a marriage destined with no blessing, but she can only become an unwelcome and passive puppet.

[4] 喜帕 Xi Pa is a big red veil that covered the bride’s head during the wedding and throughout the ceremony. It is only removed upon the groom entering the bridal chamber and consummate the marriage.

She, Su Qi Qi, was the Prime Minister’s legitimate eldest daughter, she was also the Emperor’s first anointed Empress candidate, however on the wedding eve… an imperial decree came, from an Empress degraded a consort, she become the laughing-stock of the world.

Her graceful and gentle younger sister married into the palace, while she became someone who’s been cast aside by the present Emperor, and then bestow to Ding Bei Hou Wang, Mo Wen Chen as the unbearable woman.

This was only because her appearance is incomparable to her younger sister, Su Meng Ru.

Also because that bloodthirsty, ruthless, and cold-blooded Ding Bei Hou is Yan’s[5] pride, he was a thorn in the current Emperor’s flesh.

[5] 燕 Yān was an ancient Chinese kingdom.

The current Emperor used Su Qi Qi to humiliate this second Prince.

Although she was the legitimate daughter, but her mother was not favoured, for her mother to be able stand in the Prime Minster’s residence, she had to accept this trifling marriage, she can already imagine what her future will hold……

The bridal chamber was surprisingly quiet, occasionally there was the candle crackling sound, such intravenous, only made Su Qi Qi’s heart uneasy.

She waited, waiting for man who could decide the fate of her life, waiting for her unknown future.

The door was open, the footstep were composed and calm.

“Wang Ye.” Xi Nian[6] and the servant girl’s voice trembled, reverent and respectful.

[6] 喜娘 Xi Nian is a matchmaker.

“All of you withdraw.” His voice was light and arrogant, without the slightest fluctuation.

The thing that caused Su Qi Qi’s heart to have unknown suffering was that there’s no joy in this man’s voice, this dowel wedding really made him very dissatisfied.

Through the veil, she could see his black boots, her pair of hands twisted a little more tightly.

Clang a sound, the phoenix coronet on her head was taken away, her hair was torn causing her much pain, it was also because of this strength that caused her to kneel down.

“Rise your head, and look at Ben Wang.” Mo Wen Chen coldly commanded.

“Yes, Wang Ye.” Since Su Qi Qi was young she grew up in the Prime Minster’s residence scrupulously trying to survive, at present moreover she had a pair of delicate appearance.

She did not dare to rise, so she can only kneel.

Observing the man opposite of her, on their wedding day, he still wore a black robe, his slender figure and handsome features, he was a generation of elegantly handsome man, but because of that pair of cold eyes he became a cold man.

Looking at Su Qi Qi’s delicate and pretty face, Mo Wen Chen’s pupil winced, his face was ghastly pale, his body emitted a sense of unknown cold air.

This cause Su Qi Qi not daring to look at him in the face.

Rumors has it that this man was a cruel, bloodthirsty and cold-hearted person, it seems likes this is true, his face has revealed everything.

Moreover his thin lips pressed together.

Slowly raising her head, coming into contact with Mo Wen Chen’s eyes, she tried to calm herself down, with both of her hands slightly on the ground, with a little effort she glazed at the handsome man in front of her, just one look, she knew she would be reeled deep inside them.

This man had the ability to folie other women in this world, obviously knowing its a flying moth darts into the fire/flame[7]…..

[7] 飞蛾扑火 Fēi é Pū Huǒ: Seeking one’s own doom ; The candle moth flies into the fire — to bring destruction on oneself.

“You are Ben Wang’s humiliation.” Suddenly, Mo Wen Chen’s hand pinch Su Qi Qi’s jaw, seemingly gentle, but it was filled with much strength, he was a person who practised martial arts throughout the year, Su Qi Qi couldn’t bear the pain.

Her eyes swelled with tears, but the tears remained there, never once falling.

Su Qi Qi could not comprehend the words Mo Wen Chen was saying.

Also she stared straight at him.

“You do not deserve to be Ben Wang’s Imperial Consort, you only qualify to be the lowest of servant.” After he finished speaking, he had looked of disgusted as he pushed Su Qi Qi, turning around to leave.

Merely because of this sentence, it doomed Su Qi Qi’s fate of her future in the Wang residence.

The door opened and closed, the room restored to its complete silence.

Not long after, the door was opened, because Su Qi Qi’s heart was numb she has not raised yet she saw a slender beauty come in.

Under the big red candle light, her face appeared very charming.

Her facial features was beautiful, her walk had a hint of frisk, her eyes light up, causing everyone to ablate in her smile.

“Wang Ye have given orders, Imperial Consort will become the lowest of servant.” The woman gently opened her mouth, the word Imperial consort and servant was spoken clearly, “Take Imperial Consort to the Laundry Department.”

The two guards behind was stunned, “Ah……”

They look at each other, and didn’t dared to move.

“What? Does Imperial Consort feel that Wang Ye is wrong?” The woman sees the guards not moving, instead they kneel besides the somewhat startled Su Qi Qi.

“I wouldn’t dare.” Su Qi Qi knew everything cannot be changed.

For her mother that was in the Prime Minister’s residence, she can only endure.

Slowly rising, she walked leisurely and unoppressively, her expression was calm as ever, seeing the imperial guards indifferent smile on the side, “Imperial guard brother, please lead the way.”

If you would like to read the novel and can read Chinese, the novel can be found here (thank you hanny for finding the link with 500+ Chapters, the website I was reading from only had the first 73 Chapters free to read). Just letting everyone it’s an ongoing novel with 800+ Chapters, however each chapter is relatively short, I’ll say a little over 800 words or more so its way way shorter than an average chapter.

  1. Thanks for the introduction! I trust your taste, so I definitely would look forward to any summaries you’d provide. It’s ongoing, but hopefully it’s a HE?

It kind of reminds me of Both are Foxes (per Decembi’s review) since both girls are disdained but have hidden talents and the emperor decreed the marriage against both guys’ will.

    Thanks again!

    1. I honestly cannot answer you yet because I’m only just got pass the 100 chapter mark and the novel consist well over 800 chapters and still counting. I hope it’ll end happily but I guess I’m on this journey as much as you are if you decide to read the summary I’ll write on the novel.

      1. Did you finish translating this? Can I start reading it? I would like to read it if it’s a completed project. Thanks

  2. Looking at Su Qi Qi’s delicate and pretty face, Mo Wen Chen’s pupil winced, his face was ghastly pale, his body emitted a sense of unknown cold air. so is she pretty>

    1. Yes I’m assuming she is a stunningly beautiful herself, its just that her younger sister is described as a exquisite beauty who in turns makes Qi Qi pale in comparison. It never mentioned she is ugly.

  3. Ah thank you for the introduction anf translation, I wish you would summarise it ^_^ (only if you want of course)
The main character seems to be quite smart, I can understand why her more beautiful sister is favored although herself is like I understand quite pretty. But smarter? Is it more like ruthless and plotting?

    1. Yes Qi Qi is quite beautiful herself and she’s definitely smarter than what others make her out to be. Even her own father doesn’t know her hidden talents, that goes to show how unfavorable her and her mother must be in the Prime Minster residence.

I do think she’s caculative, it’s partly because she’s been brought up in a survival mode. And the novel does contains scheming, as all the characters in novel has their own emotive and cheese pieces laid out eg. The person who poison Mo Wen Chen was his own brother the Emperor. Most Emperors in history has always been ruthless.

  4. Thanks for introducing another C-novel.. hope you continue giving us a brief summary. . Thanks again…. so QiQi will melt the cold blooded Mo Wen Chen… can’t wait for the development.

  5. Thanks for the review. I am looking forward for the summaries. Besides romance, is this novel also focus on palace intrigue? Why is it so long?

    1. Besides romance, it focus on the scheming between the Emperor and Mo Chen Wen, and also the Empress. I just pass 100 chapters so I’m afraid I’m unable to tell you whether the plot involves other things besides what I have mention so far.

I don’t know why the novel is so long but each chapter is relatively short, chapter 1 should give you an indication of the length of each chapter. However once it’s translated into English obviously it’s lengthen than the original context.

    1. Well he knows that Qi Si Si is merely a chess piece the Emperor has laid out to humiliate him. He still doesn’t know whether he can trust this women who appears so oridnary yet has so many hidden talents.

If we readers didn’t get an insight on her thoughts, we could assume she could be a spy sent out by the Emperor to monitor this Wang Ye. However this is just my own insight of the development of the novel so far.

      1. I just passed the 100 mark. There’s hint of infatuation and interest because I remember in one of the chapters Mo Wen Chen thinks to himself whether Su Qi Qi is in/ love with him.

A lot has happen but the author has gone into details of supporting characters in the story as well. So she’s probably laying out the foundation first.

  6. I really like the idea of a summarize of this novel it looks really interesting. I am curious if her sister it is really that beautiful or a plot of her father to change the oldest daughter place with her youngest

    1. That’s actually a good point, since I believe her father is a cunning man who only uses his daugther’s to his fullest advantage.

I guess it’s a good thing her father doesn’t know that she’s actually that amazing and talented. Or else Qi Qi wouldn’t just be trying to defend herself from Hua Qian Zi, instead it’ll be ten and thousands of the Emperor’s womens.

      1. There is not doubt that life in the harem is a worst fate and it is not strage thinking about this that she decided to study about poison. She could have been easily poisoned by one of her rivals!

      2. Well the author mentioned she studied medicine, I’m not too sure if she specially studied poison like Xiao Yao in “Lost You Forever”

But I rather Qi Qi stayed away from those women. Staying in the palace turns any gentle naive women into scheming ruthless ones, who’ll go to any length to fulfill their goals and empty hearts.

  7. Thanks for introducing the novel, the story looks interesting.
The novel seem to be promising but it too long.
I don’t know how long it will takes time for me to finish it, since my poor Chinese T.T

  8. Stumbled onto your site and this novel looks promising! There’re just so many c-novels out there, and I hate to waste time on one which I’ll eventually drop. Gotta rely on fellow readers like you! Thanks for the rec~

      1. I’ve just crossed the 100 chapters mark and yes, I am enjoying it!

Not to say that the novel is without shortcomings, of course. I really like it, but I do have some views to share (don’t mind me ya!), which I think is what a good novel would bring. I was initially put off by the flat portrayal of the lead female as someone cold, distant, afraid to let her emotions show. It was inconceivable that anyone can rein in their temper and maintain a cold facade when thrown into situations like Qi Qi was. So it took me a while to warm up to her, after the author explored more of her background and how she was made to be as invisible as possible.

There were some lapse of logic, like how Qi Qi is so well versed in medicine, the zither, chess, calligraphy, painting, when she is not favoured at home (hence, leading to her abovementioned personality). I hope the author gives more information on the background of Qi Qi’s mother as the novel goes on, so that we get to see the talented mother who managed to raise such a daughter in spite of the poor circumstances. Afterall, right where I am there seems to be plotlines seeded for the backstory of Qi Qi’s mother. Except for the knowledge of medicine. With no actual experience in healing, I wonder how Qi Qi managed her medical feats just using ‘textbook knowledge’.

I was not prepared for the sudden infusion of supernatural elements right after a heartwrenching scene (oh my, I cried at that chapter!), but it really brought about a change in pace and dynamics between characters. Right now, I’m half wishing that the OTP (well, considering the title), will be no more. The author has created a universe with such interesting characters, the lead male ceased to be the more intriguing.

So interesting that I’m almost ready to overlook the confusing writing style. Not sure if you feel the same, but I find the reading experience less enjoyable and more tedious because of the lack of quotation and colon marks, and random incomplete sentences inserted haphazardly. Often I need to reread a paragraph to determine if a line is spoken out, or just a narration of someone’s thoughts. Sometimes, it makes a huge difference.

Despite all my rants, there is so much potential in the universe constructed in the 100 chapters, I probably won’t be putting it down anytime soon. Thanks a lot for your recommendation!!! And sorry for taking up so much space on your page! I’ll post on my wordpress instead next time. =X

One random note. Mo Wen Chen. I wonder if he was ‘bestowed’ his current name by his brother the Emperor. Would a father give his son such a name from young, to never interfere on worldly matters/court matters?

      2. It does mention that Qi Qi’s mother did come from a wealthy family, which is why Qi Qi is also taught these talents.

The author in her later novels do start to use quotation and colon marks, I do agree that was one of the downfall in the style of writing. I had the same trouble until I got used to her writing style.

Regarding the last point I’m not sure if it was the deceased Emperor that bestowed him that title or his brother.

Ps. I don’t mind discussing the novel with readers and having my post flooded. It’s nice to discuss it with others. Keep reading, you’ll have some of your answers to your questions. It does get a lot exciter as the plot thickens.

  9. Hey sutekii,

I’m not sure when you’ll be receiving this since you say that this blog is on an indefinite hiatus, but I just want to leave a message here in case you ever come back.

I am alyschu, admin of Moon Bunny Cafe, and I’d like to inform you that Chiyomira has picked up this series because of your summaries (if she didn’t tell you this already) a while back. The other reason why I am sending this message is to tell you that she has decided to move her translations of “Black Bellied Prince’s Stunning Abandoned Consort” to MBC.

Since I created that website as a library-like reading platform, I’d prefer all chapters of a series on MBC to not be redirect links, and have permission from their original translator for it to be hosted on MBC (or at least let their original translator be informed of us having their translation on MBC if they have completely left into the interwebs).

I hope you don’t mind us having your translation of chapter 1 on MBC. You will, of course, be credited appropriately. If you have any issues with that, please tell me ASAP and I will take down your translation.

    Happy reading!

It only takes a few seconds to make someone smile.
